Sur La Table returns to The WestchesterÂ
Luxe kitchenware retailer Sur La Table is back at The Westchester in White Plains.
The brand, founded in Seattle in 1972 by Shirley Collins, had its share of setbacks in the pandemic ”“ closing many of its then 121 stores and filing for bankruptcy in July 2020.
A month later, the e-commerce investment firm CSC Generation and Marquee Brands LLC bought the company”¯for nearly $89 million.”¯Now it”™s all systems go as the brand returns to The Westchester and The Shops at Farmington Valley in Canton, Connecticut, with plans to open at Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany. (There are 55 stores in 20 states in all.)
“By expanding our retail footprint strategically, we”™ve targeted specific markets, providing new and familiar communities with a retail destination that offers the 50 years of cooking expertise that the brand is known for,” Jordan Voloshin, CEO of Sur La Table, said in a statement. “We are enthusiastic about returning to locations where Sur La Table has previously operated in, as well as entering new markets and reaching new customers across the country.”
Judging from our visit to The Westchester store, which opened April 13, we”™d have to say that staffers and patrons are just as enthusiastic. The staff is friendly and helpful, the store is clean and well-stocked with spring-like aprons, tea towels of Paris and those ceramic measuring spoons we love and, of course, everything the chef”™s heart desires.
Speaking of chefs, we took a peek at the impressive kitchen for those signature cooking classes that also net participants a 10% store discount.
