‘Not a Sonata’ perhaps, but music still in Verplanck
KinoSaito in Verplanck will present “Not a Sonata No. 3,” with pianist Bruce Odland and cellist Lin Esser, on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. “Not a Sonata No. 3” is a continual experimentation of real-time spontaneous compositions by pianist Odland and cellist Esser, multi-instrumentalists who’ve been collaborating since 1977.
Their first alliance was a slipper jazz group, with which they performed on an array of ethnically diverse instruments. In the 1980s, they played in multiple punk, New Wave and avant-garde ensembles in Denver’s thriving alternative music scene. After moving to New York three decades ago, Odland’s and Esser’s artistic interests evolved in complementary directions, and they have continued to work together on numerous projects in film, theater, recordings and once again live performance.
KinoSaito is at 115 7th St. Tickets are $10, and seating is limited. To reserve a seat (required), click here.
