Joe Torre and VIPs tee off to help end domestic abuse 

On Thursday, July 20, former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre will once again helm his golf and tennis classic at Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough to benefit Safe At Home, the nonprofit he formed with wife Ali to help end domestic violence by focusing on children, education, safety and prevention. The Safe At Home Golf & Tennis Classic tees off at 11:45 p.m. with actor Hank Azaria, baseball”™s Larry Bowa, Rick Cerone, John Franco, Jim Leyritz and Lee Mazzilli, basketball”™s John Starks and sportswriter Tom Verducci among those expected to attend. Christina McHale”¯is the tennis host. 

Now in its 21st”¯year, Safe At Home has reached more than 160,000 youth in its mission to educate them to end the cycle of violence and abuse. Its signature program is a school-based safe room called Margaret”™s Place ”“ named in honor of Torre”™s mother and staffed by a full-time, master”™s-level therapist who provides individual and group counseling sessions and violence prevention education; leads schoolwide anti-violence campaigns to empower students to become advocates against violence; holds workshops for school staff and administration to build a safer school environment ;and provides workshops for parents to make homes and communities stronger. 

Margaret”™s Place is available in 18 schools in three states ”“ New York, California  and Ohio ”“ as well as two international locations in Tahiti. Together, Margaret”™s Place reaches nearly 20,000 students each year.
