Hungry to stop food insecurityÂ
The Hunger Guys ”“ Byram Hills High School juniors Billy Gillespie, Marco Scali and Michael Solow ”“ aren”™t hungry for food. They”™re hungry, they said, for change.
They want to address food insecurity in Westchester County, which has the biggest disparity between the haves and have nots in New York state, which in turn has the biggest disparity in the nation.
“During our research (through the program Global Scholars), we found out that there is enough food being created for everyone to get equal amounts, but it’s just not being distributed,” Marco said.
The trio has started a GoFundMe page: and plans to hold a school food drive. Said Billy: “We are planning to partner with (The Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry).”
Ultimately, The Hunger Guys want to be an example for their peers. Said Marco: “I hope that stories like this can inspire other people in our generation to try to change the world for the better and to take away that stigma that has been created, because I think we are capable of much more than we are doing right now.”
