On Aug. 8, 2011, Hurricane Irene brought catastrophic flooding to the Garnerville Arts & Industrial Center and the nonprofit Garner Arts Center gallery housing the”¯“Sari Dienes”™ Retrospective.” The gallery collapsed and half of the exhibit was lost.”¯

”¯Now, 12 years later, Garner Arts Center has announced the opening of Building 35, a 2,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art exhibit space and regional visitors center, with a show of works by Dienes, the late multimedia artist, and contemporary Haitian American painter”¯Vladimir Cybil Charlier.”¯ In addition, the works of photographer”¯Ned Harris, namesake of the”¯Harris Gallery”¯in Building 35, will be on display in the”¯Visitor Center @35.”¯

”¯The Saturday, March 11, opening artists reception (5 to 7 p.m.) will also recognize the support of the larger arts community of Rockland County, the village of West Haverstraw, the town of Haverstraw and New York state. Restoration of Building 35 was made possible with a $270,000 FY2019 Facilities Improvement Mid-Size Capital Project grant award from the New York State Council on the Arts and the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York Legislature through New York state”™s Consolidated Funding program.”¯

”¯“NYSCA is proud to have provided critical capital funding to the Garner Arts Center, which after 12 long years has reopened its doors to a new gallery and visitor center,” said Mara Manus, executive director of the New York State Council on the Arts. “Congratulations to the staff, board and artists for creating this permanent space that will continue to deliver the measurable benefits of the arts to all New Yorkers and our visitors.””¯

The exhibits run through April 23. Hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Fridays and 1 to 5 p.m. weekends. Building 35 is within the Garner Historic District, 55 West Railroad Ave. in Garnerville. For more, visit garnerartscenter.org
