Falling for hot fashions

At Bloomingdale”™s White Plains, a one-shoulder dress in velvet, the season”™s plushest fabric.

Now that New York Fashion Week ”“ which concentrated on haute couture looks for spring ”“ is over, what can we look forward to this fall?

According to Bloomingdale”™s, these are the top 10 trends for fall:

A cropped pantsuit in red captures two fall trends.

  1. Better red than anything else ”“ Turn up the heat, Bloomie”™s said, with the primary color that swept the runways at Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney and Ferragamo, among other couture shows. Scour your closets for cherry dresses and crimson accessories.
  2. Tailor your topper ”“ With a colder winter on tap than we”™ve seen in a couple of years, coats return with a vengeance. Bloomingdale”™s said look for one in herringbone, plaid or go with basics like black, camel or chocolate, the color of the season.
  3. Denim, unexpectedly ”“ The casual go-to goes upscale in column dresses and tailored suits.

“Top Gun: Maverick” has helped make bomber jackets and motos all the rage.

  4. Motor with your moto ”“ The leather biker look is back, if indeed it ever left. (Young”™uns fashion site Boohoo also picked the leather bomber jacket as a fall trend due to the popularity of “Top Gun: Maverick.”) Pair your jacket with jeans, a dress or just about anything.
  5. Top handle bags are tops ”“ Channel your inner Princess Grace with a ladylike handbag, a rising trend for several seasons, Bloomingdale”™s said.
  6. Lingerie looks linger ”“ The underwear-meets-outwear trend is still going strong. For those who do not dare to be bare, a lacy dress will keep you demure and au courant.
  7. Pantsuits update ”“ Defined blazers, cropped trousers, bustier tops:  This is not your grandma”™s pantsuit.
  8. Viva velvet ”“ Nothing says “fall” like the plush fabric. Go full-on with a velvet holiday dress or perhaps make a small but distinct statement with a pair of velvet shoes?

A soft tote lets you carry your essentials stylishly.
  9. Tote bag redo ”“ For the days when your ladylike handbag isn”™t enough, a soft tote will let you carry your essentials stylishly. Or perhaps you want to put that handbag in your tote?
  10. Ballet flats are where it”™s at ”“ Commune with your inner Audrey Hepburn with a shoe that can take you from town to the horse shows or polo fields.
