Calling all coats

Lifting Up Westchester is seeking clean coats in good condition for adults in need. Courtesy Lifting Up Westchester.

With cooler weather comes a sad realization:  Some among us do not have a warm coat of their own.

Lifting Up Westchester, a White Plains-based nonprofit serving the homeless, is seeking to help change that with its adult-coat donation drive. Coats should be clean and wearable (without need of repair). All sizes are welcomed. If Lifting Up Westchester can’t directly use your donation, it will go to HELPsy, a clothing-recycling organization.

By collaborating with HELPsy, Lifting Up Westchester earns funds for every pound of textiles. It also works with HELPsy on opportunities for those who need jobs.

For items other than coats or if you’re dropping off donations directly into the HELPsy bin, accessible 24/7 at 35 Orchard St. in White Plains, there’s no need to call in advance.

Lifting Up Westchester can accept up to 30 coats – 15 for men, 15 for women. To ensure the organization has room for your coat donation, contact Nancy Inzinna in the Volunteer and In-Kind Department atNinzinna@liftingupwestchester.org before donating.
