Barbie world indeed

Get set for a whole lot of blond and a whole lot of pink this summer as “Barbie” hits movie theaters July 21.

Analysis of Google search data reveals that”¯with the “Barbie” movie set to drop July 21, we are truly living in a Barbie world. Online searches for “blonde hair dye” jumped 157% worldwide just hours after the trailer for the Barbie movie dropped online, along with posters of the cast. (We prefer the second trailer.)

”¯A new finding by fashion site”¯Flaunt Your Fashion”¯reveals that”¯the online searches for “blond hair dye” skyrocketed to more than double the average in one day. Searches for “Barbie style” have also risen worldwide (142%) as well as searches for “pink clothes” (a 174% increase), pink being, of course, Barbie’s signature color.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, known for her feminist takes on classic female culture (“Little Women”), the movie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and her ever-devoted boyfriend Ken, with a who”™s who of comic actors as Barbie”™s and Ken”™s various iterations. (Yes, there is indeed Physicist Barbie, played by Emma Mackey, and President Barbie, played by Issa Rae.)

A spokesperson for”¯Flaunt Your Fashion”¯couldn”™t resist commenting on the findings, which foreshadow a marketing bonanza:”¯ ”¯

“Barbie has been a staple of popular culture for decades with her instantly recognizable look. The newly released trailer and movie posters have caused a buzz online, with fans eagerly awaiting the movie”¦. As these findings show, the excitement has also transcended into the fashion space, with many fans wanting to emulate Barbie’s iconic style, indicating that pink tones, cowboy boots and bright patterns are set to make a big comeback this summer.”
