Banana Republic – at home in the world
One of the biggest trends in design is the continuing marriage of fashion and home. Banana Republic is one of the latest fashion retailers to enter the home goods and furnishings market in what parent company Gap Inc. calls a “milestone in the brand’s transformation as a leading destination for the modern explorer.”
Indeed, the casual, modern collection in a neutral palette features globally inspired pieces that evoke Arhaus and Restoration Hardware and invite customers to “come home to the world.” Items range from $195 for cotton sheet sets to $4,950 for a sofa.
BH Home may be described as a case of “necessity being the mother of invention.”
Banana Republic’s comparable sales dropped 8% in Q2 2023. Net sales of $480 million also represented a decrease of 11% from the same time period last year, according to retailtouchprints.com. Gap and BR are seeking to turn around declining sales by expanding rather than shrinking, with new product lines BR Baby, BR Athletics and Art, a collection of original artworks and photographs inspired by culture, nature and travel.
BR Home will be featured in select Banana Republic stores, at brhome.com and in pop-ups in New York City and Los Angeles.
