Four lawyers and a law student to receive Above the Bar Awards

Members and family of Westchester”™s legal community will gather at Whitby Castle in Rye on June 8 to honor lawyers and a law student for excellence in their field at the 11th annual Above the Bar Awards.

Presented by Citrin Cooperman, the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University and the Westchester County Business Journal, the Above the Bar Awards honor the county”™s most active, dedicated and successful attorneys in several categories. Winners of this year”™s awards have been announced.

Pace Setter Award: P. Daniel Hollis III will be recognized as the best overall attorney who exemplifies excellence in professional and community work. Hollis, president of the Westchester County Bar Association, is an experienced litigator in complex corporate, contract, zoning, planning, condemnation and other real estate matters. A partner at Shamberg Marwell Hollis Andreycak & Laidlaw P.C. in Mount Kisco, he assists clients in obtaining municipal approvals for commercial and residential developments and nonprofits”™ projects. Hollis has also received the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award and the Boys”™ & Girls”™ Club of Northern Westchester Humanitarian of the Year Award.

Most Socially Conscious Attorney: Joseph Carlucci will be honored as an attorney who is dedicated to one or more causes in the community, an active leader, takes cases pro bono and participates in government service. A partner at Cuddy & Feder LLP in White Plains, Carlucci is responsible for the firm”™s industrial development revenue bond practice and represents borrowers, underwriters and issuers in transactions throughout the New York metropolitan area and nationwide.

Leading Land Use Attorney: Richard L. O”™Rourke will be recognized as a professional who has dedicated his legal expertise to land use and has distinguished himself as a leading land use attorney. A principal member of Keane & Beane P.C. in White Plains, O”™Rourke represents property owners and land development companies in obtaining approvals for retail, commercial and residential developments. He also serves as Brewster village justice.

Leading Matrimonial Attorney: Georgia D. Kramer will be honored as an attorney who has been involved in successful complex matrimonial cases and is well-respected for her ethical representation of clients. Kramer is a founding member of Kramer Kozek LLP in White Plains who served as co-chair of the matrimonial committee of the Westchester Women”™s Bar Association.

Most Promising Pace Law Student: Angelica Cancel will be honored as a third- year law student of high scholastic achievement who is involved in school and community activities. Cancel has worked with U.S. District Judge Nelson Roman”™s chambers for the Southern District of New York and with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson LLP in New York City, where she has accepted a position and will start work as an attorney in September.

Keynote speaker for the awards event is Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino. A former FBI agent and city prosecutor and city court judge in Mount Vernon, Scarpino in 2000 was elected as the county”™s sole Surrogate”™s Court judge. In November, the Democrat was elected district attorney.
