The entire campus will gather to celebrate Manhattanville College becoming Manhattanville University as part of a week-long celebration leading up to the Inauguration of the University’s new President, Frank D. Sánchez, Ph.D. There will be plenty of fanfare including confetti, pep rally, a dance performance and unveiling of a student created mural with internationally renowned and widely collected American artist Chakaia Booker, known for her monumental, abstract public space and gallery works.
10 AM-12 PM: Manhattanville University t-shirt giveaway for students, faculty, and staff. Location: Stone Sign at front entrance.
12:15 PM-12:45 PM: Students, faculty, and staff will gather in Reid Castle Circle and listen to music compliments of the Manhattanville student radio station, WMVL. Dance performances, athletics teams, the Valiant mascot, student government, and other student groups will be participating and creating excitement leading up to the program.
12:45 PM: University Launch Celebration Begins – Dance Performance
Dance performance featuring dance students working with Professor Yoshito Sakuraba, Interim Program Director of Dance. Student performers: Ariel Phartharangsy, Meghan Bonser, Samantha Marion, Paije Pasols, Ella Sargent, Isabella Camuto, Viannah Dominguez, Daejhor Huddleston, and Katie Hegenauer. The BFA in Commercial Dance is launching this coming fall!
12:50 PM: Celebrate Manhattanville College becoming Manhattanville University! The event will culminate in the formal announcement and press conference with President Sánchez and the unveiling of new banners and signage with updated logos and seal. President Sánchez will welcome the crowd for a brief program and remarks ending with the finale – a countdown to official University status!
1:30 PM: Manhattanville Mural Unveiling
Students, faculty, and staff unveil the student-created mural with the Arthur M. Berger lecturer Chakaia Booker who will speak to the meaning of public space art. Location: Berman Center Lobby
2:00 PM: Arthur M. Berger Lecture with Chakaia Booker
Annual Arthur M. Berger lecture featuring internationally renowned American artist, Chakaia Booker. Location: Berman Center Lobby
The public announcement of the university status is part of the Inauguration Week events in April at Manhattanville with the theme “Leading a Valiant Vision.” The full list of Inauguration Week events can be found here.
This rebranding initiative represents a significant milestone in Manhattanville’s history, and this celebration is the culmination of the collaborative efforts of people and groups around campus. The rebranding includes a university launch campaign with the theme “Always Forward. Always Valiant.” The new branding embodies a collective vision for the future and our dedication to providing a transformative educational experience for students.
There will be merch reveals, giveaways, videos, contests, and challenges throughout the month on social media.
