Cross County Center Kicks Off 70th Anniversary Celebration

Marx Realty (MNPP), a New York-based owner, developer and manager of office, retail and multifamily properties across the United States, announced the 70th Anniversary celebration of Cross County Center, the nation’s first open-air shopping center. Cross County Center will kick off its milestone celebration with an expanded Summer Fest 2024, promising an array of family-friendly events and experiences. The series will begin on Saturday, May 18th at 12pm, inviting visitors to embark on a nostalgic journey back to 1954, when the iconic outdoor mall first. The day will celebrate Cross County Center through the decades, featuring strolling entertainers, music and selfie stations representing different eras, and a Pop-Up Roller Skating Rink! The event will take place from 12-3 PM on The Green and is free to the public. (Rain Date: Sunday, May 19). Additional events marking the 70th Anniversary will take place throughout the year as part of the celebration.

Seventy years ago, Cross County Center made history as the first large-scale shopping center in Westchester and the first open-air shopping center in the country, setting a precedent for ambitious projects nationwide. The center started operations with about 30 stores. Within a short time, it expanded to include more than a dozen different buildings and nearly 100 stores anchored by Gimbels and Wanamaker. Since its official opening on April 28, 1954, the mall has flourished, continuing to bring cutting edge retailers to its 1.1M+ square-foot location.

Cross County Center is jointly owned by Marx Realty and Benenson Capital Partners and stands as a testament to innovation and longevity in retail. Situated at the intersection of Cross County Parkway and I-82, the center draws over 14 million visitors annually from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
