Fairfield’s SHU Community Theatre to show first-run movies again

First-run movies are returning to Sacred Heart University”™s Community Theatre in Fairfield for the first time in 12 years with the premiere engagement of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

The highly-anticipated film, which brings back Harrison Ford in his fifth go-round as the iconic title character, opens on June 30 ”“ and the theater will also host two sneak preview screenings on June 29. Tickets for this engagement can be purchased on the theater”™s website, with admission costs at $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and children. The film is booked to run through July 22.

The theater first opened as a vaudeville venue in 1923 and became a movie house in 1929. It showed first-run films until it was closed in September 2011. Since its reopening under the university”™s ownership in 2021, it has offered live events and special films screenings, but not first-run theatrical releases until now.

“”˜Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”™ is the exact kind of movie we want to show to introduce our new summer blockbuster series,” said Matt Oestreicher, the theater”™s executive director. “Patrons can experience it on the big screen in an immersive environment. It also will evoke nostalgia for the many people in our community who saw the classic Indiana Jones at the cinema.”
