Congressman lobbies USPS for stamp honoring Leonard Nimoy
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is lobbying the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to issue a commemorative postage stamp honoring Leonard Nimoy, the actor best known for playing Mr. Spock in the “Star Trek” television series and film franchise.
TheHill.com reported that Schiff wrote to the USPS”™ Citizens”™ Stamp Advisory Committee recommending a postal tribute to Nimoy, who passed away in 2015.
“Live long and prosper!” Schiff wrote, borrowing the beloved Mr. Spock quote. “This is a phrase that is part of our lexicon, as is the unforgettable character who first proclaimed those words. I am writing to support the creation of a stamp for Leonard Nimoy, an extraordinary activist, actor, and dear friend.”
While the “Star Trek” franchise has been the subject of two philatelic issues, none of the cast members were featured in the commemorative stamps. Outside of “Star Trek,” Nimoy starred on the “Mission: Impossible” and “In Search Of” television series and had an extensive theatrical career that included starring on Broadway in “Equus” and “Full Circle.”
