Shutdown at Waterford nuclear power plant
Dominion shut down a nuclear power generator at its Millstone Power Station, after the waters of the Long Island Sound off Waterford exceeded the 75-degree average temperature at which the reactor can be properly cooled.
Millstone”™s two reactor units supply 2,100 megawatts of electricity, representing half of Connecticut”™s peak power demand. During shutdowns for maintenance, other supplies are utilized. Independent System Operator New England told the Associated Press it does not expect any household or business power interruptions as a result of the Millstone situation.
