PURA seeks public input on gas companies’ proposed rate hikes

The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) is inviting the public to participate in three public comment hearings on the applications by Connecticut Natural Gas Corp. (CNG) and The Southern Connecticut Gas Co. (SNG) to amend their existing rate schedules.

The hearings will take place on Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Farmington Library (6 Monteith Drive, Farmington), on Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the West Haven Public Library (300 Elm St., West Haven) and on Feb. 16 at 12:00 p.m. on Zoom (registration is now online) https://ctdeep.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcvcOGqqj4uEtMDzjJfSNtBgKxrshNRDvHU#/

Under the proposed rate application, CNG proposes a revenue increase of $19.8 million, or approximately 4.3% of total revenues. SCG proposes a revenue increase of $40.6 million, or approximately 9% of total revenues. Depending upon where a customer is located, the proposed increase would add between $20.08 and $40.15 on a quarterly basis to the typical residential gas bill. The last CNG and SCG distribution rate cases were completed in 2018 and 2017, respectively.

Individuals who plan to submit their comments into the public record are asked to include the docket number (Docket No. 23-11-02) along with their name and home address.
