NYPA cuts electric rates for Westchester, NYC customers
Lower electric rates will go into effect this month for municipalities, schools and public agencies in Westchester County and New York City, the New York Power Authority announced on Thursday.
The state power organization’s board of trustees approved a decrease of about $500,000, or 17.5 percent, in fixed costs for its 103 customers in Westchester County, including municipal governments, schools and housing authorities.
The power authority attributed the Westchester reductions, as well as a $2.5 million, or 1.8 percent, cut approved for New York City customers to an overall reduction in the organization”™s cost to generate electricity.
The NYPA, based in White Plains, provides power from generators to public facilities and agencies, with rates determined by the cost of the customers”™ energy requirements.
