Indian Point reactor operational after planned outage

The Unit 3 nuclear reactor at Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan returned to service Wednesday after being shut down for 23 days for a planned outage.

Indian Point”™s two reactors are each shut down every two years, in alternating years, for inspections, upgrades and to replace fuel. Entergy Corp., the company that owns and operates Indian Point, invested $50 million in the outage and brought on about 1,000 contractors to work on Unit 3.

The nuclear reactor facility”™s two units generate about 25 percent of power used in New York City and Westchester County, Entergy reported.
