GE debuts wind-EV charger

In what General Electric Co. says is the first such installation in the world, a GE electric vehicle charger in Spain is now powered by a wind turbine.

Fairfield-based GE is partnering on the system with New York City-based Urban Green Energy Inc., which produces small-scale wind turbines for use in dense population centers.

The companies promise to debut their “Sanya Skypumps” at shopping malls, universities and other locations in the United States later this year. The system delivers power through a GE DuraStation EV charger, which enables faster charging using higher voltages.
