Super-straining oil filters have proven a boon for Standard Oil of Connecticut Inc., allowing its vans to skip multiple oil changes without fear of friction.
Standard Oil of Connecticut, based in Bridgeport, has now deployed the Westchester County, N.Y.-made microGreenT extended performance oil filter in its fleet of 60 service vehicles.
“As a company that works in the oil industry, we have a strong commitment to preserving the environment,” said David Cohen, executive vice president of Standard Oil of Connecticut. “The microGreenT filter is unlike any other product available on the market. It lowers our costs significantly, is better for our vehicles and is much kinder to the environment. It is a winner from every point of view. After reviewing our test results, I decided to convert our entire service van fleet.”Â
“Years ago, radiator fluid and spark plugs needed to be changed frequently,” said Cohen. “With improved technology, these items are now changed quite infrequently. Until recently, motor oil needed to be changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. With the microGreenT filter, the 3,000 to 5,000 mile oil change will become a thing of the past.”
SOMS Technologies L.L.C. headquartered in Valhalla, N.Y., introduced the microGreenT oil filter in October 2008.Â
According to Flamebaum, conventional motor oil filters can only filter out particles down to 25 to 40 microns in size. Falmebaum said the problem is that most of the particles that cause engine wear are between three to ten microns in size so they are not filtered out of the oil. After 3,000 to 5,000 miles, most engine oil becomes contaminated with these small particles and has to be changed.Â
The microGreenT oil filter combines a conventional filter with a second microfilter that captures particles down to two microns, so the oil is kept clean and can last longer.  Â
