Entergy announces $250,000 in local grants
Entergy Corp. announced Aug. 21 it awarded grants totaling $252,400 to 18 first responders, emergency management organizations and other local groups as part of its Safety Responders Fund program.
The grant program, which has awarded more than $1.25 million since its inception in 2009, is designed to help fund training and equipment purchases for first responders within close proximity of Indian Point Energy Center, located in Buchanan.
Organizations that received funding in the latest round of grants included Buchanan Engine Co. No. 1, Cortlandt Regional Paramedics, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center, Somers Youth Sports Organization, the town of Somers, Westchester County Police, and Westchester Arc Foundation, which supports children and adults who have developmental disabilities and their families.
Various organizations from Orange, Rockland and Putnam counties also were among those to receive Entergy grants.
“Our community first responders and emergency personnel are dedicated professionals and often risk their own safety to keep others safe,” said John Ventosa, site vice president and Entergy”™s top official at Indian Point Energy Center, in a statement. “Entergy is appreciative of the work done by professionals and volunteers in our communities.”
