DEC approves power plant in Dover
The Cricket Valley Energy Center (CVE) has received its stamp of approval from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
DEC Commissioner Joe Martens announced on Tuesday that the 1,000 megawatt CVE had all required state environmental permits approved. The approval process includes findings under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), and Air, Wetland and Water Quality permits.
“As lead agency for review of this project, DEC staff has carefully and thoroughly examined this project and its environmental impacts,” Martens said. “This new plant not only offers environmental benefits but also economic benefits.”
Martens said that the combined-cycle natural gas-powered electric generating facility will be a boon to the Hudson Valley economy. The site totals 193 acres that previously housed industrial buildings that are now abandoned.
CVE will demolish the buildings and dispose of the non-hazardous waste-piles on the site.
