At year’s end, gas prices in decline

As motorists get ready for the New Year’s holiday weekend, gas prices are in decline nationwide, although regional prices are above the national average.

According to AAA data released this morning, the nationwide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.12, down from last month’s average of $3.24. One year ago, the average was $3.15; the record high was $5.01 set on June 14, 2022.

In Connecticut, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.22. The price is down from last month’s average of $3.38; the average was $3.41 average one year ago. Fairfield County’s $3.37 average is the highest for the state’s counties.

In New York, the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.37. The price is up from last month’s average of $3.39; the price was $3.40 one year ago. Within the Hudson Valley region, Westchester has the highest average at $3.60 and Sullivan County had the lowest at $3.18.

Hawaii had the highest statewide average at $4.67 and Mississippi had the lowest at $2.67.
