Aquarion Water Company notified the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority of its intent to increase water service rates on customers by roughly 16.8 percent.
The increase would amount to an additional 24 cents per day on the average customer’s bill, adding up to $26.9 million in increased revenue.
Aquarion officials contend the Bridgeport-based company has invested more than $143 million in critical water infrastructure upgrades since the last price increase. The upgrades ensure safe, clean water is being delivered to customers while withstanding any potential storm damage, officials say.
The company serves roughly 625,000 people in 47 Connecticut cities and towns.
