Tuition increasing at Connecticut State Community College

The merger of the state”™s dozen community colleges into the single Connecticut State Community College (CT State) will take effect on July 1, and students of the new entity will be required to pay a 5% increase in tuition and fees ”“ a roughly $266 annual uptick ”“ beginning in fiscal year 2024.

“These are difficult decisions,” said CSCU Chancellor Terrence Cheng. “The board and the system office understand the struggles our students face and see tuition increases as a last resort. At the same time, the financial reality driven by significant projected declines in state support are such that action is needed now.”

Chenge pledged that CSCU”™s leadership is working to “develop mitigation strategies” ahead of the fiscal year 2025 budget, but to did not rule out another tuition and fee increase for fiscal year 2025.

“They will approach this process with open ears and open minds, but with the understanding that we must do everything in our power to ensure the long-term viability of our colleges and universities,” Cheng said.

Beginning in fiscal year 2024, CSCU tuition will increase from the current $174 per credit to $183 per credit. For full-time students, their annual tuition will rise from $4,176 to $4,386.
