SCSU professor receives award from CSCU System

Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) announced that David Pettigrew, a professor and chairman of the philosophy department, has been awarded Connecticut State University Professor status by the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) System.

The honor is bestowed on a professor who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of research, teaching, and service. Pettigrew is recognized for his research and presentations related to the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he has also co-edited three books in contemporary French and German philosophy and psychoanalysis, translated nine books and created the LEP Tier II Global Awareness writing intensive course “An Introduction to Holocaust and Genocide Studies.”

“I look forward to continuing my work with teachers in Connecticut as they respond to the law requiring the inclusion of Holocaust and Genocide education and awareness in the social studies curriculum in the public schools,” said Pettigrew. “I have been inspired by the dedication of the teachers. Now the new law designating July 11 as Bosnian Genocide Remembrance Day in Connecticut will create new opportunities for workshops and curriculum initiatives.”
