In Dec 2012 20 students were killed in a tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. It was the deadliest shooting in a K-12 school in American history.

Today, 12 years later, their classmates graduate from high school.

“It’s just going to be heartbreaking,” Grace Fischer, one of the survivors told CNN. “I can’t imagine that 20 kids are not graduating with us and that they’re not having the opportunity to walk across the stage.”

The graduating students will wear green and white ribbons with their robes and caps, bearing the phrase “Forever in Our Hearts” to commemorate those who were lost on that tragic day.

The shooting, which killed their fellow students and forever changed their lies was also the center of unfounded conspiracy theories. Recently  Alex Jones, the media personality who promoted if not originated many of those conspiracy theories has recently lost a series of high profile court cases and is expected to liquidate his media holdings in order to pay the $1.5 billion in damages awarded to the families he defamed.
