Fujitsu closing Rockland office, laying off 77 workers

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a developer of fiber optic communication equipment, will lay off 77 employees in May when it closes its New York office at 2 Blue Hill Plaza in Pearl River, the company notified state Labor Department officials this week.

The layoffs will take effect in the first two weeks of May.

A spokeswoman at Fujitsu Network Communications headquarters in Richardson, Texas, said the company is consolidating its hardware development functions “to enhance collaboration and realize cost efficiencies.” Some of the functional responsibilities and jobs currently at the Pearl River office will be relocated to the Texas facility and others will be shifted to Fujitsu”™s development facility in India, she said.

“This is part of an overall plan already in place to meet changing market demands,” said Susan Dianto at Fujitsu.
