Danbury Mayor outlines budget plans in latest newsletter
Danbury Mayor Roberto L. Alves sent a newsletter on April 30 regarding planned budget changes and his office’s priorities ahead of the City Council’s vote on May 7.
Alves highlighted plans for an 8 percent increase to the budget for public safety and emergency response, primarily going to the police and fire department. He is also proposing an increase of $10 million for Danbury Public Schools, to offset facility maintenance and debt, in addition to an additional $7.5 million in state funding for education.
“Keeping our taxes low and ensuring responsible fiscal management is the cornerstone of my administration,” Alves said in his newsletter. “With a proposed mill rate below the ten-year average, we’re keeping taxes low and minimizing the burden on taxpayers while efficiently managing resources.”
“Maintaining our infrastructure is also critical, and with the proposed Public Works budget, we’re ensuring our parks, roads, waterways, and utilities remain in good condition. We’re also continuing to advocate in Hartford for municipal aid. And, with existing and future federal and state funds on top of the budget, we can continue to enhance our infrastructure and make Danbury more resilient.”
