$2.5 million to cover costs of distributing 2020 storm damage payments

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced on July 3 that it would release $2.5 million to the State of Connecticut to cover the costs of administering aid in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias, which caused statewide damage in 2020.

The storm on August 4, 2020, impacted the entire state, and even caused the formation of a tornado in Westport.

FEMA has already distributed over $38 million to fund recovery efforts from this single storm, but these funds will specifically help offset the costs of distributing those funds to those who need it, which can be full time work for several state employees. The administrative costs are calculated as a percentage of the overall funds distributed.

“FEMA is pleased to be able to reimburse Connecticut for the administrative costs incurred recovering from this storm,” said FEMA Region 1 Regional Administrator Lori Ehrlich. “Recovery is a process that takes time and effort by state, tribal and local governments, and this grant recognizes those realities.”
