Senior-themed condos planned for Darien

Jill Barile and business partner Dean Heinrich reported they have approvals to build a community condominium complex of 16 units, five of which are affordable, in Darien. The units will be age-restricted to those 62 and older and are within walking distance to the train and downtown.

The location is the corner of Leroy and West avenues.

“We anticipate breaking ground in mid-February,” Barile said. She and Heinrich work at Coldwell Banker/Greenwich Fine Properties at 191 Mason St., Greenwich. “Nothing like this has been built in the town of Darien. Adult communities are fast becoming not only popular but a necessity in Fairfield County.

“In a town like Darien, empty nesters have few options and often move to outlying towns,” she said. “Our project will give them the opportunity to stay in their community.”

The condominiums will be priced from $750,000 to $875,000. The units have two bedrooms and two baths each; some have an additional powder room. The units range from 1,200 square feet to 1,600 square feet.
