Norwalk to announce economic development plan

Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling was expected to release Norwalk”™s economic development action plan Sept. 2.

According to the mayor”™s office, the plan for the future includes capitalizing on the city’s assets to attract and sustain business, create jobs, develop the workforce and improve quality of life. The action plan identifies specific initiatives that can yield important economic benefits, identifies timelines for action, assigns responsibilities and outlines progress made to date.

“This is a living, dynamic document that will be used as a reference and guide for boards, commissions and department head meetings,” Rilling said in a statement. “It will be updated periodically as new actions are identified and as progress toward reaching goals is realized.”

Rilling said he and others will work with the city”™s major corporations, entrepreneurs and small business owners and reach out to those who might consider moving to Norwalk.

Nearly 40 people from a variety of sector,s including business, government, education, culture, tourism and the arts gave their input regarding the action plan.
