Bridgeport seeking bids for former RemGrit site

The city of Bridgeport is seeking bids for the demolition and remediation of two buildings on the former Remington Arms site, where officials hope to build a train station.

Included in the project is the demolition and remediation of a 57,600-square-foot manufacturing building and an 8,800-square-foot boiler building. The state has previously authorized $1 million in bonding to fund the project.

“This is another important step forward in bringing a much needed second train station to Bridgeport, which will be an engine for economic development for the East Side, East End and the entire city,” Mayor Bill Finch said in a release.

The city foreclosed on the property, which had been owned by RemGrit Realty Inc., in 2011. The historic site, which opened in 1867 and was owned by Remington Arms Co. from 1912 to 1986, has fallen into a state of disrepair and has been the scene of numerous fires over the years.

The city’s Department of Public Purchases will receive bids for the demolition and remediation project until July 10 at 2 p.m.
