Auto dealer goes green

Curry Subaru-Hyundai is opening a new 30,000-square-foot dealership in Cortlandt Manor designed according to green building standards. Its parent company, 93-year-old Curry Automotive, also plans to build a green-certified Toyota showroom this year as it makes itself a regional model for environmentally conscientious business.

Curry Subaru-Hyundai opens June 4 at 3040 Cortlandt Boulevard. The building was certified as meeting standards of the U.S. Green Building Council”™s Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) program.

“When we first started planning, our primary goal was to install solar panels, but once we realized what a significant and positive impact we could make on the environment, we dedicated our resources and effort toward constructing a LEED-certified showroom,” Robert Carinci, Curry chief operations officer, said in a press release.

Bernard F. Curry, CEO and owner of Curry Automotive, said the company”™s main goal “was to create a sustainable, healthy, and comfortable building for both customers and employees. By integrating sustainable design and energy efficiency with comfort, safety, utility, durability, economy, and aesthetics, Curry was able to achieve that goal.”

The new dealership is part of a business renaissance on Cortlandt Boulevard, the town of Cortlandt”™s renamed and aesthetically enhanced East Main Street commercial corridor. The town”™s purchase of decorative street lamps was funded by Curry Automotive and Best Buy.

The auto dealer”™s project partners included Architectural Visions P.L.L.C. in Mahopac, GTL Construction L.L.C. in White Plains and O”™Dea, Lynch, Abbattista Consulting Engineers P.C. in Hawthorne.
