Northrop Grumman jettisons from Norwalk

Norden Systems”™ storied run in Connecticut is coming to a close, after Northrop Grumman confirmed plans to shut down its Norden radar and electronics systems facility in Norwalk at a cost of more than 300 local jobs.

It marked another significant loss of a Fairfield County employer in recent weeks, on the heels of ESL Investments”™ decision to relocate to Miami; and plant closures planned by R.R. Donnelley & W.E. Bassett.

In a joint release, Connecticut”™s congressional delegation said it was not given advance word of the company”™s decision.

Founder Carl Norden”™s bombsight was a major technological breakthrough of World War II, when the company was based in New York.

After being acquired in 1958 by a predecessor company of United Technologies Corp., Norden established a presence in Norwalk, with Northrop Grumman acquiring the business in 1996.
