Army engineer to launch Quinnipiac dept.
Quinnipiac University hired former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officer Lt. Col. Scott Hamilton (ret.) to lead its new department of engineering, which will begin offering courses this fall.
Hamilton previously led a team of academic and military specialists charged with creating the National Military Academy of Afghanistan.
He has also taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he holds a degree in civil engineering in addition to masters degrees from Stanford University.
Initially lodged within Quinnipiac”™s business school, the new engineering department will offer undergraduate classes in civil, industrial, mechanical and software engineering.
“Along with hiring new faculty, one of my first tasks is to develop a creative, engaging and inspiring introduction to engineering courses for next fall’s freshmen,” Hamilton said, in a written statement. “The Quinnipiac steering committee did a great job of developing a rough framework for engineering, which I’ll be refining and tweaking as we go forward. Being in the School of Business is rather unique for an engineer, but I think it will also provide some great opportunities for collaboration.”
