Woman sentenced to two years for assaulting Metro-North conductor with a pumpkin

A Bronx woman was sentenced to two years in state prison for assaulting a Metro-North Railroad conductor in Mount Vernon with a pumpkin.

The defendant, 23-year-old Alexis Adams, pleaded guilty last month to assault in the second degree, a felony. Following her incarceration, Adams will be subject to three years of post-release supervision.

The attack occurred at approximately 6:02 p.m. on Oct. 11, 2021, when Adams got into a dispute with a conductor over train fare. The dispute turned violent with Adams striking the conductor in the face with a pumpkin before fleeing the train at the Mount Vernon West station. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for lacerations around her eye and ear.

Adams left her purse and identification on the train, which helped the MTA Police Department locate her for arrest.

“Today’s sentence holds the defendant accountable for violently attacking an essential worker who was simply doing her job,” said Westchester District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah. “We thank the MTA Police Department for their collaboration on this case.”

The case was before Judge James McCarty in Westchester County Court and was prosecuted by the Trials and Investigations Division.
