Greenwich police secure arrest warrants for ‘tourist burglary’ crews
The Greenwich Police Department has secured arrest warrants for eight individuals tied to a pair of “tourist burglary” crews operating in the Fairfield County and across the state line in several Westchester towns.
The Greenwich Police Department worked with law enforcement agencies from New York, New Jersey and the FBI to identify and arrest the crew members in an investigation that spanned several months. According to the department, the suspects entered the U.S. and committed residential burglaries in the area before returning to their country of origin. However, the two crews cited in the arrest warrants operated separately and had no known connections.
Since October 2021, Greenwich has experienced over 70 residential burglaries that were nearly identical in their staging: The suspects targeted high-end properties in the evening hours after sunset where residents were not home, entering through a second-floor window or door. If the home is armed with an alarm, the suspects fled the area without stealing property.
