Former Danbury rehab center nursing assistant charged with sexual assault

A former employee at Danbury”™s Western Rehabilitation Care Center has been arrested and charged with multiple sexual assault offenses at the facility.

Juan Farfan, a certified nursing assistant at the center, was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond.

Farfan was accused of sexually assaulting a speech therapist and three residents at the center. An investigation against him began in November 2022 after the speech therapist reported the alleged assault and a second investigation began in January following a complaint by a resident that included the claim that Farfan installed a camera in their room. Following that complaint, Farfan was placed on administrative leave and was later fired.

According to a CT Mirror report, Western Rehabilitation is facing more than $45,000 in fines from both the state”™s Department of Public Health and the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for failing to report or properly investigate allegations regarding a sexual assault against a resident.
