Arrest made in connection to Westport jewelry robbery

On Wednesday May 29 Javon Thorbourne, a 30-year-old Bridgeport resident, was arrested for his alleged role in the May 9 smash-and-grab at a Westport jewelry store.

Thorbourne was charged with larceny and related violations. The warrant for his arrest was issued at the Stamford Superior Court where he was already being held in relation to larceny cases in other jurisdictions.

The Westport Police allege that Thorbourne was one of two assailants who used hammers to smash cases at Lux, Bond, & Green on Westport’s Main Street in the early afternoon before grabbing jewelry and making a getaway in a black BMW.

“Westport Police Detective Bureau worked tirelessly with area Law Enforcement agencies as well as the United States Marshall Service to identify and build a case against Mr. Thorbourne,” said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement to the Westport Patch.

How exactly Thorbourne became a suspect for the robbery was not shared by the Westport Police Department.

Thorbourne is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and is expected to be arranged on June 5.
