AG Tong sues solar company over predatory sales and sloppy work

Attorney General William Tong is filing a lawsuit against Vision Solar LLC after receiving 14 consumer complaints.

Vision Solar has been offering its services in Connecticut as a registered Home Improvement Contractor installing residential solar systems since December 2020. But beginning in August 2021, Tong”™s office received complaints that the company”™s representatives engaged in predatory sales tactics aimed at of elderly and disabled consumers and offered incorrect information on financing and tax benefits from solar panel installations. The company was also accused of sloppy workmanship that resulted in lower energy generation and completed projects that never obtained the necessary permits needed to connect the solar systems to the grid.

“We”™re investigating numerous complaints regarding high-pressure solar industry sales tactics, but Vision Solar”™s predatory practices are far and away the worst we have seen,” Tong said. “Vision Solar preyed on low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners, pressuring them into unaffordable loans for solar panels that in some cases were never activated. Their egregious misconduct appears to have violated multiple laws, and we”™re going to hold them accountable. Our lawsuit seeks to get money back for Vision customers, as well as fines and court orders to stop Vision from engaging in these unfair and deceptive practices.”
