State approves nearly $6M for Norwalk projects

The State Bond Commission approved nearly $6 million in funds for improvement projects in Norwalk this week, state Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff, D-Norwalk, announced.

Funds were approved for a number of different initiatives, including:

• $400,000 for a study on the implementation of a bus rapid transit corridor for Route 1 between Norwalk and Stamford.

• $200,000 to provide a grant-in-aid for Richard C. Briggs High School as part of funding for improvements to 18 Commissioner”™s Network schools. Projects will include alterations, repairs, improvements, technology and equipment to help address building and site deficiencies.

• $4 million for the design, engineering and construction of a new dockyard on the Danbury branch of the Metro-North New Haven Line in Norwalk.

• $1,246,752 to award a construction contract for a roof replacement project at the Lower Fairfield Respite Center in Norwalk. The project consists of the removal and replacement of approximately 62,309 square feet of roofing on five buildings.

• $125,000 for repairs to the Norwalk Courthouse.
