Stamford Hospital expansion reaches full height
Skanska USA construction workers ceremoniously topped out Stamford Hospital”™s 638,000-square-foot expansion project recently.
The hospital is one of the largest health care construction projects underway in Connecticut. It was the subject of a Business Journal story in September.
Skanska reported its dedicated construction crew of 812 people has recycled 96 percent of material on-site (599 tons) and removed approximately 25,000 cubic yards of dirt from the job site to make way for the facility. They also have erected 4,198 structural steel pieces and laid some 10,824 cubic yards of concrete for the hospital”™s slabs and foundations.
A topping out is a celebration of a major construction milestone that involves the installation of a building”™s final piece of steel, marking its structural completion, before other work commences. The Stamford Hospital expansion is on schedule, and is slated for completion in 2016.
The project”™s construction with a timeline and photos is chronicled at stamfordhospital.org.
