At the time of the sale the former Gere estate was valued at $11.1 million. It was assessed at $7.76 million by the Town of New Canaan. The 82 Brookwood Lane property had been assessed as high as $10.15 million in 2020, according to land records.
Through the Kensho Trust, Gere purchased the property in 2022 from the trusts of singers Paul Simon and Edie Brickell for $10.8 million. Simon bought the property in 2002 from the estate of business tycoon and philanthropist Charles Dana for $16.5 million.
Only last year the town Planning and Zoning Commission approved Gere’s request to turn part of the estate into a farm that would sell produce directly to consumers, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. The next step was for Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, to seek a tax exemption for farming on the property.
In 2022, Gere had sold his 50-acre Pound Ridge estate over the border in New York for $28 million.
According to a Mansion Global report, the 11,658 square-foot estate at 81 Lyndel Road has eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms, and the property includes stables, a private lake with a sandy beach and an island, a soccer field, and a swimming pool. Gere purchased the land in 1986 for $1.51 million and the residence was in construction in 2000.
Gere and Silva have reportedly purchased a mansion in Madrid for 11 million Euros ($11.61 million US), according to The Drinks business publication. The property includes a wine cellar. According to The Drinks, “The Pretty Woman” and “Officer and a Gentleman” movie star lauded Spain for its “extraordinary food.”
