Power Authority invests $2.1M in North White Plains train yard
A year of upgrades to the North White Plains Metro-North train yard has come to an end at a cost of $2.1 million, but state agencies are banking on saving money from the investment.
A partnership between the train’s operator, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the New York Power Authority coordinated the energy-savings project anticipated to save the state more than $328,000 annually, according to a release from the office of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, a Democrat.
The upgrades included replacing a boiler and several air circulation and ventilation devices for the yard’s four buildings. The project also included installation of an energy monitoring and management system utilizing smart technology.
The improvements are part of the governor”™s BuildSmart N.Y. initiative, the goal of which is increasing energy efficiency in state-operated buildings by 20 percent before 2020.
The power authority oversaw the project and covered its upfront costs. The MTA”™s reimbursement installments to NYPA are anticipated to be partially offset by savings made on the energy-cutting investments.
