Metro-North commences $36.7m station renovation project

Rehabilitation work began Oct. 1 at the Mount Vernon East, Pelham and New Rochelle Metro-North Railroad stations, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced.

Additional renovations will commence next summer at the Larchmont, Mamaroneck and Harrison stations. The project is expected to cost $36.75 million, and is scheduled for completion in August 2014. All six stations are located on Metro-North’s New Haven line.

The renovations will be performed under three separate construction contracts, of which two are through the MTA Small Business Mentoring Program, established to teach small business subcontractors how to become general contractors.

The largest of the contracts was awarded in July to Andron Construction Corp., located in Goldens Bridge.

The remaining two contracts were awarded to Champion Construction Services Corp., based in Forest Hills, which will install platform guardrails at the Mount Vernon East, Pelham and New Rochelle stations; and to Innovative Electric of New York Inc, based in Mount Vernon, which will install platform guardrails at the Mamaroneck and Harrison stations.
