Historic Hoyt-Barnum House moving to accommodate new Stamford police station

The city of Stamford and the Stamford Historical Society are moving the city”™s oldest residence, the Hoyt-Barnum House, on Nov. 6. The move from 713 Bedford St. to the historical society”™s home at 1508 High Ridge Road is to accommodate the construction of a new police station, which will reportedly cost $75 million.

“Stamford”™s oldest house deserves to be around for another 300 years, and its best chance of that is at the historical society,” Stamford Mayor David Martin said. “This delicate operation has been a big undertaking for the city”™s engineering department and the historical society, and will certainly be a sight to see.”

The house, owned by the Stamford Historical Society, will be disassembled into two pieces that will be placed on moving dollies and pulled by rig to the final site by  Davis Building Movers. Most of the stone foundation of the house has already been disassembled and categorized for later reassembly at the site.
