Architect heads to 19th green

Architect Lee A. Wright, who worked on projects throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties, including a few of the region”™s most famous golf clubs, is retiring.

Wright, principal architect at Perkins and Eastman in Stamford, has been with the firm for 11 years since the staff of Sherwood, Mills and Smith Architects, where he was president, joined the firm.

Following an Ivy League education, his career has spanned 42 years.

Wright serves as a member of the firm”™s project management committee and its scholarship committee.

“I have had a wonderful 40 years plus and have worked with some great people through the years,” said Wright.

Wright has been instrumental in establishing and building Perkins and Eastman”™s well-regarded clubs and hospitality presence. He has worked on projects including the Country Club of Darien; Burning Tree Country Club of  Greenwich; Beach Point Club of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; and Quaker Ridge Golf Club of Scarsdale, N.Y. Wright”™s position in the firm”™s clubs arena will be assumed by Mitchell Levy.

Wright earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from Princeton University. He began his career with Sherwood, Mills and Smith in Stamford in 1966.

At Sherwood, Mills and Smith, he managed the design and construction of many elementary, middle and high schools as well as religious, institutional and commercial buildings, many of which are still use today. He became a principal in 1982 and president in 1996.

“Lee Wright”™s leadership and skills have been key ingredients in the success of both the Stamford office and our national club design practice,” said Bradford Perkins, chairman and CEO of Perkins Eastman. “While we are glad for him that he is finally starting a well-deserved retirement, we will miss him very much.”
