Ameristar springs casino details - Westfair Communications

Ameristar Casinos Inc. one-upped the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority and Penn National Gaming Inc., unveiling its plan for a $910 million casino in Springfield, Mass.

Massachusetts has authorized three casinos within its borders, including one for the western part of the state. Mohegan Sun hopes to expand in Palmer, north of its flagship casino in eastern Connecticut that is among the largest in the western hemisphere. Earlier in October, Penn National unveiled its plan for a Springfield casino that would cost more than $800 million to build.

Las Vegas-based Ameristar says its Massachusetts resort would employ 2,300 people, in addition to creating more than 2,000 temporary construction jobs. The company”™s plan for Springfield includes a 150,000-square-foot casino featuring 3,300 slot machines and 110 table games, a 500-room hotel, and a conference center.

Restaurants will include establishments from celebrity chefs Wolfgang Puck and Martin Yan, Jerry Remy”™s Sports Bar & Grill, and of course, Dunkin”™ Donuts which is based in Canton, Mass.

“With no displacement of existing residents or businesses, we will have a 12- to 18-month head start on other proposals,” said Gordon Kanofsky, CEO of Ameristar, in a prepared statement. “Since significantly less of our capital investment will be spent on land acquisition, site preparation and infrastructure, more of our investment will be utilized creating the world-class resort experience that will attract more visitors to Springfield and keep them coming back time and time again.”
