Four HV Red Lobster restaurants closed

The Red Lobster restaurants in Scarsdale, Nanuet, Kingston and Poughkeepsie have closed as part of a nationwide shutdown of some of the chain’s outlets. Red Lobster had not issued a formal announcement as of this morning, but CNN Newsource reported that Red Lobster was abruptly closing at least 48 of its restaurants around the country. Other reports indicated that more than 80 Red Lobster locations are affected. The Business Journal confirmed that the Hudson Valley closings have taken place.

CNN attributed the closing information to the restaurant liquidator TAGeX Brands, which is conducting an online auction of Red Lobster restaurant inventory, including kitchen equipment, furniture, tables and chairs.

Red Lobster has been at 999 Central Park Ave, in the Midway Shopping Center in Scarsdale. The Nanuet location has been at The Shops at Nanuet at 198 NY-59. The Kingston location has been 1 Miron Lane and in Poughkeepsie the Red Lobster restaurant has been operating at 2255 South Road.

The company has about 650 U.S. locations. There have been reports that the company is considering filing for bankruptcy protection.

CNN Newsource reported that in 2020 Thai Union, a seafood supplier located in Thailand and a longtime supplier to Red Lobster, took an undisclosed financial stake in the chain and became a key shareholder. Since then, Red Lobster has had four CEOs. CNN reported that Thai Union said earlier this year it would divest from Red Lobster and take a $530 million loss on its investment.
